Project

The Romanian Energy Center Association (CRE) together with its members TRANSELECTRICA, DELGAZ GRID and TELETRANS (subsidiary of Transelectrica), which it has promoted in the European Consortium, cooperate in the implementation of the "PHOENIX" Project - "Electrical Power System's Shield against complex incidents and extensive cyber and privacy attacks", funded by the European Commission, within the Horizon 2020 Program.

Partners

Transmission and Distribution Operators (TSOs and DSOs) from Central and South Eastern Europe, including ASM TERNI (IT), ELEKTRO LJUBLJANA (CR) and PPC (GR), as well as other energy and telecommunications partners from 11 European countries (France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Norway and the Netherlands), in a consortium of 25 partners.

Duration

PHOENIX started in September 2019 and will be completed in August 2022.

Objective

To create a cyber shield for the European Electricity Power Systems (EPES) infrastructure that will enable the detection of large-scale cyber incidents and attacks and reduce cascading effects on the infrastructure itself, the environment, citizens and end-users at a reasonable cost. The validation of Project PHOENIX will take place in 5 large-scale pilots covering the entire value chain from generation to consumption, including cross-border experiments and cascading effects to other critical infrastructures.

Role of CRE

Coordination of Work Package 8 (WP8) being responsible for "Exploitation and Information", while contributing to standardization activities.

Representatives of the Romanian Energy Center Association (CRE) participated and contributed to the "Second ECSCI Workshop on Critical Infrastructure Protection", organized online by the ECSCI Cluster, on April 27-29, 2022. The project "PHOENIX" - "Electrical Power System's Shield against complex incidents and ample cyber and privacy attacks " participated in this interesting Workshop and important discussions, in the framework of Session 3 - "European Union (EU) research results on modern Critical Infrastructure (CI) Protection - Part 2".

Representatives of the Romanian Energy Center Association (CRE) attended the Second Advisory Board Meeting within the European Project "PHOENIX" - "Electrical Power System's Shield against complex incidents and extensive cyber and privacy attacks", Thursday, December 16, 2021. This relevant and important meeting took place online. The PHOENIX project is funded by the European Commission (EC) through the Horizon 2020 program.

Representatives of the Romanian Energy Center Association (CRE) participated and actively contributed to the Plenary Meeting within the European Project "PHOENIX" - "Electrical Power System's Shield against complex incidents and extensive cyber and privacy attacks", which took place online on Thursday, September 16, 2021 and Friday, September 17, 2021. Project PHOENIX is funded by the European Commission (EC) under the Horizon 2020 Program. The Plenary Highlighted the overview of the Project to better understand its direction and current status.

Representatives of the Romanian Energy Center Association (CRE) participated and actively contributed to the Virtual Meeting entitled "Cybersecurity Innovation Cluster for Electrical Power and Energy Systems (EPES)" within the "PHOENIX" Project - "Electrical Power System's Shield against complex incidents and extensive cyber and privacy attacks". The PHOENIX project is funded by the European Commission (EC) under the Horizon 2020 Program. The kick-off meeting aimed to announce the establishment of the Cybersecurity Innovation Cluster for EPES and took place on Friday, June 4, 2021.
