NRG5

Project

NRG-5 was the fourth project funded by the European Commission, through the Horizon 2020 program, in which the Romanian Energy Center participates. CRE Association was partner in this project together with its member ROMGAZ.

Coordinator

ENGINEERING - INGEGNERIA INFORMATICA SPA (ENG).

Partners

A number of European partners: ERICSSON GMBH of Germany, BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS PLC of the UK, HISPASAT, S.A. Spain, OPTIMUM S.A. Greece, Institut Jozef Stefan Slovenia, Thales Communications & Security SAS France, RUTGERS - The State University of New Jersey USA and other partners in a consortium of 20 energy and telecommunications professional organizations from 8 European countries and the USA.

Duration

NRG-5 started in September 2017 and ended in 2019.

Budget

6,833,775.00 EURO - Maximum Grant Amount

Objective

Research and development of a new 5G Public Private Partnership (PPP) compliant software framework tailored specifically for the Energy domain. This framework combines secure, scalable, and unrestricted blocking support for a variety of controlled devices with 5G device abstraction. The framework enables the demonstration of coupled communications with partially distributed and secure end-to-end security and enables secure, scalable and energy-efficient communications.

Benefits

Encouraging regional cooperation between system operators in South East Europe. The project offers 9 different tools to help the Regional Coordination Center in the region to facilitate a greater penetration of Renewable Energy Sources - RES, while reducing operational costs for individual operators at both the transmission and distribution levels of electricity.

Role of CRE

Within this project, CRE coordinated two main activities, namely "5G-NORM Smart Meter Integration and Validation" and "Evaluation and Replication Guide" under Work Packages 4 and 5.
